Gyms and development
Baby activity mats and baby play gyms give baby a comfortable place to lie down and do little exercises like head ups and turns. By practicing these push-ups, the baby can develop the muscles in the arms, upper back and neck that will eventually allow them to lift their head, sit up and crawl.
What to look for in a children's gym
When choosing a baby activity gym, look for colors, textures and fun features that will help stimulate baby's senses. Baby-safe rattles, teethers and mirrors encourage baby to reach and stretch, while overhead toy bars are perfect for fun. Some of our baby gyms have support cushions for a more relaxed tummy, while others have detachable toys for on-the-go.
Tips
Aim for 3-5 minutes of tummy time 2 or 3 times a day, adding to this as baby grows.
Choose a time when baby is not overstimulated, such as after a nap or after a change.
Create a circle of toys and place baby on his tummy in the middle, encouraging him to reach and stretch with fun activities. Many of our baby mats are tummy ready with built-in toys.
